The idea of moving Brent Thompson to the Isles bench is ridiculous primarily because its the GM who's making the call, according to Chris Botta. Botta said Cappy wasn't involved in any way in the decision to bring Thompson aboard as an assistant coach. If this is true (and I have no reason to believe Botta doesn't have his facts straight), then there's a serious disconnect in the front office.

I can't figure out Snow. He hires a coach, yet he doesn't let him have input on who his assistants are? That is the very definition of "puppet". Snow keeps loading the bench with potential Cappy replacements, not guys who necessarily will "assist" Cappy in coaching the team. If you trust Cappy to coach the team, as GM you have to let him have input, and I would even go as far as to say final say, on who is next to him on the bench helping him. Its Cappy's a** that's on the line if the team sucks again. He should be able to decide or have significant input on who is on the bench with him helping him to keep his job. It looks like Snow is just warming Thompson up in the bullpen for when Snow fires Cappy.

Kate Murray a happy thing, guess she finally got somebody to grease her palm, which Wang wouldn't do.

Botta hates the Isles mgmt and will do anything and everything to make them look foolish. I refuse to get upset over an Assistant coaching change. Everyone on here hates Capuano anyway.. If it was his idea everyone would be just as negative on the guy. This is a non event.... period.

Speaking of Lighthouse hockey he did a very in depth spread sheet on all of Garth's draft picks and how they have done in comparrison to the Mean. It will not make a lot of you happy... fyi.

I hear u.. but he just seems like a woman scorned with everything he writes on Mgmt. They fired me and took my credentials away.. .waaaaaaaaahhhh.

I have said this before .. any move the Isles make no matter how big or small is villified by everyone. I remember when they signed Moulson how much crap Garth got for it b/c we got no one and the Rangers signed Redden and Drury.

This is an assistant coach.. why does anyone even care. A bench coach.. who cares.

Let me ask you a question: Do you think Ken Holland in Detroit tells Mike Babcock who his assistant coaches will be, or do you think that Babcock has some significant input on who assists him behind the Wings' bench? Or how about Sather with Tortorella or any other successful GM coach tandem? Do you think that Tortorella has no input on who his assistants are?

The problem is not that Thompson is an assistant coach. The problem is how he has the job. It goes to how this team runs its show. Why wouldn't Snow, who has no experience coaching himself, feel that he should be the person to hire Cappy's assistants? If Snow believes in Cappy, shouldn't he trust him to hire his own assistants or at least let Cappy have significant input on who his assistants might be?

Besides my skepticism regarding any "exclusive" reported by Botta, where does it say in there that Capuano had no input? In a purely technical sense the GM does the hiring and firing, not the coach. And Weight's alleged surprise aside, there's no info at all regarding what Capuano knew or didn't know or said or didn't say. Why don't we wait and see how this plays out before we respond with typical knee-jerk fashion.

Saw this coming since last year. If CAppy was going to be fires this clown would come in and coach. He is cheap with no NHL experience behind the bench the type of coach the Islanders love. I swear it is like management wants this team to fail every year. Mark my words if Cappy gets fired during the year then Thompson is your new head coach. He will look good like Cappy for a few months and then be hired as the permanent coach for a couple of years. Where have we seen thsi script before???

From Botta

The likely hiring of Brent Thompson as #Isles assistant coach, as we reported here since Thompson was looking at places on Long Island several weeks ago, is being done by Garth Snow, not Jack Capuano. The head coach may bless the hiring of Thompson, the Bridgeport HC last season, but had nothing to do with it. It was Snow who fired assistants Dean Chynoweth and Scott Allen. (We're told GM advisor/asst coach Doug Weight was stunned by the firings). As GM, all of this is Snow's prerogative.

To me, that reads like he had no input.

I care more about the job he's leaving rather than the one he's moving into. We're going to have a lot of prospects in BPort now...for the first time in ages. Why not leave the guy who seems to be doing a good job with players like Donovan, Ullstrom, Cizikas, the goalies, etc? Doesn't seem worth it to move him just to fill, as you say, an assistant coach position...

According to Botta.

Is there any other sources other than the ex Isles executive that was fired for being a whiny egotistical drama queen?

Not that it really matters...

But I do agree the coach should make all coaching decisions.

My point is .. You hate Cappy... so why do you care if they asked his permission to hire this coach? This guy sounds like he is a good coach and gets very fired up.. Most feel that if Cappy doesn't get results this year he will be on a short leash. This guy is not going to be the next coach... but will more than likely continue to be assistant coach when Cappy is gone.
